The Famous Finger Cutting Incident of 2008.

It was a beautiful Saturday, on December 27, 2008. I was intermittently watching re-runs of the Real Housewives of Atlanta and decided that I wanted to take down all Christmas decorations except for the tree, so that after the holidays I could take my time and get everything put away nicely, and not have to spend an entire day doing it.

With that being said, I have a railing in my upstairs living room and I use wire ties to hold in place my lighted garland (the thick plastic ones that you slip through and pull to tighten), these need to be cut off when you are done with them. So I can't find the kitchen scissors, but being the genius I am I find the sharpest knife we have and decide to use that to cut off each wire tie.. Do you see where this is going? I slip the knife under the first wire tie and pull hard toward myself... all of a sudden it all goes wrong. The knife successfully cuts through the wire tie, while also bouncing back into my left index finger. I drop the knife, hold my hand and do the nervous jumpy, hoppy dance around the living room while chanting "I am so stupid, gosh, this is so dumb. Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god." When I gather the courage to look at my finger, there is a nice looking purple and blue bruise and a nice deep cut, it doesn't bleed at first and then it was like I parted the red sea! I wrap it in paper towels, and the bleeding is not stopping, so I do the only thing I can. I called my mommy. She lives around the corner from me and thank goodness because she was there in a flash and fixed me all up!

No stitches! Thanks mom!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

For most of us the holidays are a time for reflection, great memories and way too much food. This holiday season has been wonderful. I was able to really enjoy my family and close friends. I also nearly cut off my finger (OH YES... I will post a separate blog entry on that), made some awesome Christmas cookies and bought gifts from Amazon.com that were just too good to pass up.

I also realized this year that gifts are not special because of the amount spent, but because of the people that give them to you. The person that thought enough about you, to buy you something that you wouldn't have gotten for yourself. Of course let's also be honest and say, we all probably recieved something less than stellar, but smiled graciously and returned it! LOL This happens, but hey its all a part of the crazy holiday season.

I will also admit that amongst Christmas songs and FA LA LAs I said a curse word or two because someone cut me off on the road, or stole my spot in line at Walmart.. :-)

For New Year's we are staying home and enjoying either pizza, chicken or some other reasonably priced meal that will include champagne, and other goodies.

A HAPPY, HEALTHY PROSPEROUS 2009 TO EVERYONE!

drugstore.com

Hello! A friend of mine told me about this site and I think its great. Not on all products, but for alot of brand name and products that I use regularly the prices are great and they ship directly to your home, sometimes by the next day. This is a nice option when you are busy, or simply just want to shop online! You may end up saving quite a bit of cash. Whatever your local drugstore is whether it be Walgreens, CVS, or Eckerd, I would compare first and then decide if drugstore.com is worth your while. For me it is, I like it alot. Sometimes my puppy food is even a good price. And of course, always check out the clearance section!

Tis the Season to Give Chocolate

Chocolate, a second on the lips, forever on the hips. I have gotten so MUCH chocolate from vendors for the holidays I don't even know what to do with it, other than to regift it, or give it away! I am very appreciative, but I just find it so ironic that in January everyone will be on the healthy kick, and all the while we have stuffed our faces full of chocolates with unknown fillings.. That mystery always makes me laugh, some companies refuse to use the ever useful map and so you go through biting your way through a few different ones to find what you want. Good grief! I am going to hide this most recent gift and do my best not to eat every last morsel. Wish me luck and hey, if you want some of it, I will be happy to share!

Football Dayz

I had this on here before, and I will say it again, this is all about football pride! LOL That is my son on the left, I love that he chose to wear the pink bandana. Either this picture will totally embarrass him later on, or it will become part of a scrapbrook! Better yet maybe I will turn it into a poster... Hmmm.
Anyway, Tony did great this past football season, and won two awards. It is time for wrestling now and he is doing pretty well. I am very proud! He is althetic, smart and very funny.

"Doting on Myself"

WOW! What an eye opener, yesterday I call my one of my best friends to gripe about my hubby, and his lack of the Christmas spirit, probably because the state of the economy or the size of our last gas and light bill.. who knows. In any case, I tell my friend how my sweet mother in law slides me some $$ for a shopping trip we took last Saturday. The whole point of this $$ was for ME to buy something for myself (HA HA HA). Call it guilt, call it whatever, but needless to say I spent a small portion on ME! I found a shirt I liked from the Liz Claiborne shop that was only $7.99 and then later at Kohl's I bought some everyday earrings for $6.49.. I tell my friend this and she is utterly appalled I mean she gasped at me over the phone. She said "Melissa, Melissa you have to learn to treat yourself." She basically said that my hubby doesn't dote on me like I deserve because I don't take the time to dote on myself. I AGREE! But I am a mom and most of us wait to take care of our needs last. It is just in my nature! I will try to get better at treating myself, but it is gonna take time. :-)
I am not the only one who suffers from this right?

Coupons are Fabulous!

Now this is great, I went shopping with my mother in law over the weekend, and she had cut out nearly every 39 cent Walgreens coupon in their ad and some others. When we got to the register with our combined order of over $40, I handed the cashier our handful of coupons, and our bill ended up being just under $30! This is a great example of coupons at work. I was ecstatic! I mean I have been doing everything without coupons for so long, now I can't even imagine not going out and getting a deal.

Silent Night.

It will be a silent night for me tonight that's for sure! I have lost my voice and am trying to find it. .. This cold and cough has beaten me down for at least a week now. I hope to find my voice soon, because not talking for me is NOT good :-)

I am sure my family is fine with it, LOL but I am in the office today and it should be fun trying to answer the phone with a raspy, barely there voice.

Have a great Monday!

Coupons, Coupons and More Coupons!

What can I say, I have NEVER been a coupon cutter, ever. But I have to admit that over the past year I have changed my mind. Going to the grocery store and paying $40 for $65 worth of groceries isn't bad at all...

One of the places that I have found great manufacturer coupons is not just in the Sunday paper, but on Ebay. Various vendors sell manufacturer coupons in bulk for $1 or more in some cases, but they do all the work for you! They cut, they clip, they find, and you simply pay to have them mailed to your home. For the couple dollars you may spend in the coupons, it pays for itself if you use just a few coupons out of the entire bunch. The rest you can share with family, friends and co-workers. The key with Ebay is to find people who are offering the "Buy it Now" option, this way you are not in a bidding war over coupons. :-)

Manufacturer coupons are the best because they come from the product manufacturer and are good for a long time. Sometimes they never expire. I was at Walgreens the other day, my son had a cold and has been sick for over a week. I wanted to try the new Theraflu liquid warming severe cold concoction. It was $6.49... not that I don't want my son to feel better but my first thought was "Where is the Walgreens brand?" In most cases you can find the store brand of a medicine and it works just the same. Anyway, I go through the store and something told me to back and see what else I could find. To my surprise, someone had left a $2 off manufacturer coupon in the slot next to the Theraflu.. it was weird. I snatched it up, and it matched what I had in my hand! That $2 coupon, really made a difference, because I didn't have to change brands (which I know alot of you are brand loyal and savvy.)

The point is that coupons are extremely helpful, and if taking some extra time to clip them out or search Ebay or other sites to print them off etc is going to save you money, then it is well worth it.

Here are some great coupon sites that I have searched over the past few months (keep in mind some of them may ask you to install their coupon printer, not all do this.)
Happy Shopping! You will be smiling when you are saving money!

Another Budget Friendly Holiday Gift Idea!

If you are still thinking of something to get for that person who has everything, or a budget friendly gift, magazine subscriptions can be the answer you are looking for. If you visit your favorite magazine's site (for me it's Woman's Day!!!) they usually have great deals on their subscriptions sometimes $10 for an entire year. In addition, they also show subscription offers for their "sister" companies or related magazines. When I visited http://www.womansday.com/ under the "SUBSCRIBE" button the following magazines were also listed and the subscription prices were very reasonable from $9.97 to $14:

  • ELLE
  • Car and Driver
  • Road & Track
  • ELLE Decor
  • Metropolitan Home
  • Cycle World
  • American Photo
  • Popular Photography
  • Sound & Vision
  • Flying
  • Boating
  • Ty Pennington at Home
